Profile of pioneering anti-poverty campaigner Professor Peter Townsend.
Documentary profile of Peter Townsend, founding Professor of Sociology at the University of Essex, who aims to bring about change and educate public and political leaders in order to 'awaken a vision of the spectre of mass poverty'. As well as appearing in an academic context, Townsend addresses a meeting of the Colchester branch of the Child Poverty Action Group, acts as Chairman for the Disability Alliance (both of which he co-founded), and is shown visiting the Woodlands Day Centre for disabled people and operating a weekly welfare rights advice stall in Colchester town centre. [5:40] Also included is a short montage featuring Townsend set to The Pace-Setters theme music. [0:36]
