Profile of journalist, broadcaster and brewery chairman Sir Hugh Greene.

Documentary profile of retired journalist and television executive Sir Hugh Carleton Greene. A brief overview of Greene's life in broadcasting is provided, covering his role as a foreign correspondent in central Europe and his expulsion by Hitler, to his prominent role as Director-General of the BBC (1960-68) during one of its most important periods. Greene's more recent activities are also detailed including his role as Chairman of the Greene King Brewery (established in Bury St Edmunds by his great-grandfather Benjamin Greene in 1799); his visits to the Old Rectory in Cockfield, Suffolk (once home to his great uncle, the scholar, naturalist and Vicar Churchill Babington, and often visited by Robert Louis Stevenson, another distant relative); and his writings at home in Cockfield (including The Spy's Bedside Book, written with his brother, novelist Graham Greene).
