Filmed inserts for a BBC production featuring the Cambridge Footlights.

Members of the Cambridge Footlights feature in this series of filmed inserts for a BBC East production. In the first insert, Rory McGrath stands with his thumb out, holding a card reading 'London' in the hope of catching a ride. But when a train rumbles past, the camera reveals that he is standing on an empty platform as the train refuses to stop. McGrath's hitchhiker returns for the second insert, this time standing beside a road, headed for Cambridge. But with his messages getting increasingly wordy and desperate, he finally gives up and starts walking into town. The third insert is a sketch in which a man returns home to find his wife crying on the sofa, saying she is leaving him because she cannot deal with the lack of privacy, the crowds and the noise. Baffled, he asks what she means, and when she tells him to look around, the camera reveals the couple living inside a furniture store. A short insert of a building exterior follows, as well as a fake advertisement in which a man quite literally changes his preferred brand of cigarettes, and a final insert of a calm river.
