Interview with artist, Anthony Green

Artist, Anthony Green, paints his bold, family-centred oil paintings in his home in Great Eversden, Cambridgeshire. Sheridan Morley explains that Green's painting is a celebration of the family, in which his wife, Mary, and the rest of his family exist in a permanent summer. Green has drafted a version of the painting he is now working on, `The Luncheon Party', in water colours. The painter smokes a cigarette whilst working on the image of himself, in The Luncheon Party, wearing a panama hat, surrounded by his family in his garden. Mary, herself an artist, is a great collaborator in Green's work, they talk through ideas and themes in their home, viewed through a fish eye lens. The other great love and obsession for the artist is cycling. Morley states that his fascination with the sport began in childhood watching the Tour de France and still exists now, in his paintings, and in his cycle to the village Post Office in Great Eversden. Green cycles to the Post Office to buy groceries, passing the store's sign that he himself painted. Despite knowing that he will never be renowned as a cyclist, Green is pleased with the potential of notoriety for his painting.
