The Burglar
1984
Cat no. 3954
Animation. When a burglar comes to call he gets a surprise.
Puppet animation. A house burglar, Alfred, breaks into the home of a wealthy, upper-class old gentleman, Clarence. Clarence's wife is Alfred's mother's cousin. Alfred's burgling wakes them up, and the couple, not accepting him as a thief, invite him downstairs for a cup of tea. The couple befriend the burglar, they play the flute and chess together. Clarence admits that he was a burglar in the past, his stolen goods being the source of his present wealth. One night another burglar breaks in, Alfred apprehends him and turns him over to Clarence. Clarence offers the new burglar and his wife positions as his cleaner and gardener as they have just left his employ. Alfred and Clarence enjoy a drink together and chuckle over events.
