Excavation of a Roman villa at Lullingstone.

Film describing the excavation work performed on a long-lost Roman villa at Lullingstone in Kent, including illustrations and models of the building, based on the discoveries made during the excavation. There are shots of: unidentified individuals involved in excavation work; parts of the structure uncovered during the excavation, including the remains of the bath block, an arch, which formed part of the main flue in the heating system, the steps leading to the original Watergate entrance, the mosaic floor in the living/ banqueting area, small artefacts and skeletons found onsite or behind the building. The film makes use of models to illustrate what the building might have looked like during its occupation and how its structure evolved over four centuries. The commentary, which is narrated by Ian Lauder, mentions: the accidental discovery of the site; the dates of the building’s occupation including a reference to its destruction; the development of the building. He also describes the process of excavation, and finds made during the course of the excavation.
