A struggling art student in Majorca by chance runs into an old friend and finds employment at a hotel.

A young woman intervenes in a misunderstanding between a hotel guest and waiter over a bill. She helps to resolve the misunderstanding. The guest invites her to sit with him and enquires into her background. She tells the guest how she came to be in Majorca and at that hotel. The young woman explains that it had a lot to do with the resident pianist at the hotel, Reg. The young woman’s story is told in a flashback sequence. The woman had been an art student in Majorca but ran out of funds. Unable to obtain any further money from her father, who insisted that she either ‘stand on her own feet’ or return home, and lacking the language skills or previous business experience to find regular employment, she decides to try and sell her paintings. The woman displays her artwork alongside that of other artists near the cathedral but is unable to sell any. One of the other artists offers her a job as a model. She agrees and a few days later models for him in the countryside. Unsure of his intentions, she flees. Deciding later it had been a misunderstanding, she hears a pianist in the distance. The music, which is coming from a hotel, sounds familiar. Recognising that it is her friend’s unfinished concerto, she recalls that he was working on the island. Entering the hotel, she hears her friend stall once more at the same place, the concerto remains unfinished. Reg begins to entertain the hotel’s guests. The woman begins to sing in accompaniment. The two entertain the guests to a second chorus by popular demand. The manager, impressed by the performance and the favourable reaction of the hotel’s guests, offers the woman a job as a singer for the remainder of the season. The film concludes in the present. The young woman leaves the guest to join Reg at the piano. Inspired, at last, he finishes his concerto.
