Drama of a mother whose son, under sentence of death, refuses to see her until it is too late.

Drama concerning Stacey, a young man under death sentence for murder; there is no reprieve. He refuses to allow his mother to visit him; his hatred of his stepfather poisoning his relationship with his mother. An impassioned letter from his mother is read, crumpled, and tossed away. On the day of his execution his mother sits at home with an album of old photographs of her son. Walking away from the prison after his hanging she is moved by a small boy playing football outside a school [Richard Atkins Primary School, Lambeth] as he reminds her of the son she has lost. She faints in the street. The crumpled letter is casually picked up by a prison official, dropped in the street by accident, and cleared away by a street cleaner.
