Drama. A married man has an affair with an au pair.

A couple employ an au pair for the summer holidays to assist with the household chores. The au pair, a Bolivian girl, Luisa Valverde, is young. The couple welcome Luisa into their home and she settles in to her new environment and work. The wife feels she fits in well with the family, finding her ‘friendly and likeable’. The wife suggests that her husband should teach Luisa to drive. The first driving lesson, however, brings the two together, and they begin an affair. The wife become suspicious after the first lesson when she notices that Luisa has some bracken in her hair. Her suspicions are confirmed when the two leave for the second lesson without the ‘L’ plates and the wife by chance sees them together in town leaving a restaurant. The wife likens the situation to a game of ‘Piggy in the Middle’, in which she is the piggy. The wife muses on the rules of the game and the position of the piggy. Noting the difficulties faced by the piggy, the wife ponders whether the game will lose its fascination; or perhaps the rules will change; and, finally, what action she might take to bring the game to an end (‘I can always hide the ball’). The film concludes when the wife takes Luisa to the railway station. On the train Luisa is left with her memories.
