The village of Ashwell celebrate the coronation of King George VI.

The coronation celebrations in the Hertfordshire village of Ashwell begin with a parade through the village streets led by local residents in an array of costumes, from period dress to nurses, cowboys, indians and even a little palace guard. Also featuring in the parade are a series of bicycles decorated to look like yachts in a royal regatta or a squadron of fighter aircraft, as well as floats by a variety of groups, from the Ashwell Welfare Centre to the local fire brigade and cricket club. The parade ends on the village sports grounds, where many of the costumes and floats are shown in close-up. In the afternoon, the village assembles to watch children compete in a range of sporting contests, and the film concludes with a presentation ceremony, where prizes are awarded to athletes and the winners of the costume competition.
