Views of the Hertfordshire town of Hatfield in the early 1950s.

Shot over the second half of 1952, the film provides a visual record of life in the Hertfordshire town of Hatfield in the early 1950s. It begins at the paddling pool, where children of all ages bathe in the shallow water, beside a much larger swimming pool. Shows the new housing estates on the edge of the town, and the delivery and assembly of pre-fabricated housing as segments are lifted from flat-bed trucks and slid into place. The modules are then fastened together and secured onto their brick foundations. Similar prefab houses are shown in use by young families, with permanent semi-detached brick housing under construction across the road. Other housing developments are shown, many nearing completion. As Hatfield passes through the seasons, the autumn leaves fall from the trees as council workers rake them from the lawns and sweep them from the streets. In November, winter quickly descends with the mist and fog, the film concluding with the town blanketed in snow.
