The legendary Liverpool MP known as ‘Battling Bessie’ gives a rousing speech outlining Labour’s plans should they regain power in the next General Election. She is in Norfolk to support the Labour candidate in the Central Norfolk by-election.

Jeremy Thorpe, later Leader of the Liberal Party, speaks in support of the Liberal candidate in the Central Norfolk by-election of 1962. Thorpe was a key figure in the campaign for Britain to join the Common Market.

Conservative politician Quintin Hogg, 2nd Baron Hailsham, gives a speech in support of the Conservative candidate in the Central Norfolk by-election. Hogg was renowned as one of the great Conservative speakers with a theatrical, idiosyncratic style.

Jack Andrews, another independent candidate who is standing because it’s the only way he can get out of the RAF, is also interviewed.
