A fieldsman communicates by CB radio with the Birds Eye factory, receiving instruction about when to start a pea harvest. Peas are susceptible to weather changes and must be picked at just the right time and in the right way. Bob Wellings interviews the fieldsman, who explains his responsibilities and training for his job, and also describes the process and different stages of harvesting a crop to get the better quality of pea. Meanwhile, footage of the activity of the farmers is shown, harvesting the crop and delivering to the vining stations, where the peas are separated from the pods via a mechanical process. At the Birds Eye factory, Bob Wellings interviews an employee who explains the entire factory process once the pea harvest arrives straight from the field; sorting, washing, inspection, packaging, freezing and transporting to cold stores before they hit the supermarkets. The factory expert explains the difference between the field pea and the home-grown garden pea, and discusses the mutually beneficial factory-farmer working relationship. Bob Wellings ends the report by speaking with employee George Armes inside the Birds Eye cold stores. George describes his working day and conditions inside the cold stores.
