Educational film describing Norwich's history and its development into a modern city with a variety of industries.

Aerial views of Norwich, then buildings and streets including the Anglican Cathedral, Elm Hill, Lower Goat Lane, Castle Museum, St Stephen's car park and the City Walls. An animated sequence describes the origins of the city. There are views of Norwich Castle, the market and busy streets. Norwich Union and the Norfolk Tower are featured, along with factory buildings by the river. An industrial sequence shows a small freighter loading cargo and a shoe factory with workers fitting soles to uppers. Women workers at Colman’s pack mustard jars and fill and pack bottles of fruit juice. There are views of printing equipment, and then women on a production line putting covers on books. The film shows an engineering works steel yard and a joinery factory. Animated sequences illustrate the growth of the city and road and rail links. The paved city centre, local housing and industrial estates are depicted, together with the University of East Anglia, County Hall and the livestock market.
