Night Out

1985 , Hertfordshire (County)

Two teenage boys invite two teenage girls out on a double blind date.

Drama/ comedy. Two teenage boys, Graham and Lawrence, organise a blind date with a teenage girl (Diana), asking her to bring a friend (Ruth). Lawrence, the more confident of the two makes the arrangements, having taken the phone from Graham. A movie is suggested over the phone. Lawrence drives the group to Totteridge. On the date, the boys inform the two girls that the date is a walk and a drink in the local pub. The girls are not impressed. Lawrence and Ruth find they have little in common. Graham and Diana similarly struggle to make a connection. At the pub, however, Graham and Ruth stumble across common interests. The group, after leaving the pub, gatecrash a student party. Lawrence gets drunk. Diana pairs off with another party-goer. Graham and Ruth continue to find common interests but have to take Lawrence home while Diana, who does not wish to leave, remains at the party. Graham drives Ruth and Lawrence home. He drops Ruth at her home but she has forgotten her keys and is locked out. He then takes Lawrence home before walking home. The next morning Diana and her new partner are woken up at the house, having fallen asleep on the floor. Lawrence wakes to find he has been sick on his interview jacket. Ruth, who has slept all night on the doorstep, is let in by her mother. Graham wakes up in bed and reflects contentedly.
