A local record of the celebrations in Bury St Edmunds for the Coronation of HM Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

Through Abbey Gate, the Abbey Gardens and the Appleby Rose Gardens in Bury St Edmunds, the Mayor and other dignitaries, lead the parade to the Coronation service in St. Edmundsbury Cathedral. Inside the council chamber, the Mayor presides over a council meeting as they approve the Address of Loyalty. Another procession proceeds to Angel Hill for the Acclamation Ceremony: a 21 gun salute, the planting of an oak, and the inspection of the troops. School children are presented with mugs. In the Corn Exchange there is a special display of roller skating and a children's party. Outdoor events include a baseball game and costume pram race. There is a pensioners' tea party. Evening celebrations include a dancing, a fair and fireworks. Floats in the carnival parade drive by, many sponsored by local businesses. Finally, there is a women's football match and fancy dress competitions.
