The progress of a news story from commissioning to the point of reaching the reader.

This film shows the progress of a news story from commissioning to the point where it reaches the reader. At the offices of the West Essex Gazette in Epping, the Editor is in his office. A reporter enters and is sent to cover a story; the Loughton Fair. We see shots of the fair and the reporter writing notes. The reporter returns to his office and types up his story. It is sent into the Editor for checking and heading. The next sequence shows the story being taken into the printing shop. The greater part of the film shows the printing process, including typesetting and the making of the proofs. The frame being made up and a flong is pressed from this, followed by the master cast in metal. This is put on the printing machine and the paper is printed. The next sequence shows the newspaper on display at the news stand; Loughton Fair as lead story. The paper boy is filmed delivering the newspaper and finally a reader sitting down in front of the fire to read his newspaper. In the printing room the old style of printing using typeset is of interest.
