A newly hatched gosling explores a country garden.

An owl observes and comments on the explorations of a newly hatched gosling as it finds its feet and sets off into a country garden. The film records the encounters of the gosling with other wildlife in the garden, notably its avoidance of a snake in the garden pond, and, after it has aged some two months, its exploration of the garden with another gosling. Sequences in the film during the gosling’s first exploration of its environment include: the gosling with garden birds; a hawk moth emerging from its final stage of pupation and drying its wings; close shots of a swallowtail butterfly; close shot of a wagtail bathing in a garden pond; close shots of pond life, notably a frog, a goldfish, a dragonfly; a newt and a water beetle; its avoidance of a snake; a toad feeding on an earthworm. Aged two months, the gosling and a companion visit the pond. The film records their encounters with wildlife. There are close shots of a blackbird; the two goslings in the pond; a dragonfly; a second encounter with the snake; a garden bird leaving a nesting box.
