A day in the life of a tramp.

Drama. Intertitle "The bearded tramps of old are rapidly giving place to a younger class of vagrants. These victims of unemployment depend on the "pick-ups" of charity for their bare existence". A tramp eats berries from the hedgerows, knocks on doors for charity and is turned away, and enters a farmyard where he steals an egg. As he pricks the egg and drinks the contents he sees a sign 'Join the Modern Army'. A kindly old farmer allows him to sleep in the hayloft and is repaid by the tramp doing odd jobs about the farm. The tramp boils water to make a drink to have with the bread the farmer's wife has given him. He tries to hitch a lift, and picks up cigarette butts from the roadside. He enters a public house and asks for a lift from two men with a fast sports car. They drive too fast for his comfort and he asks to be let out so he can continue walking along the road alone.
